ABOUT: Where can I learn more about Code 10-31?
We've set up a blog to share comments, news and updates about the site (please click the "About" link located at the bottom of any page).
If you're curious about "how and why" this site came to be, check out the post called "The Origin of Code 10-31" by visiting our blog "What Holds You Back" using the "Blog" link at the top of the page. Here is an excerpt:
"Like it or not, we live within a web of unwritten social rules that changes from person to person, from job to job, and from place to place. When this “code” is broken, we’re often put off, offended, irked, driven to gossip, laugh, walk away, or never return their calls. It’s all kind of passive aggressive, but it is the way most people operate. To avoid friction, we’d rather tell a friend about the person that ticked us off, and not that person directly. And apparently it doesn’t matter if you are generally nice and likeable - if you break someones’s code, you probably won’t be told because it’s too freakin’ awkward (or the consequences would be too costly).
I wondered: what if there was an anonymous, tongue-in-cheek, lighthearted way to tell someone when they’ve broken you code?"

ANONYMOUS: Will the person receiving the 10-31 know that it was from me?
No. 10-31's sent by email or regular mail are sent by www.code1031.com and do not include the email address you signed up with, or any other personally identifiable information. Send yourself a 10-31 to see how it works...
But of course, if you print a 10-31 yourself and get caught leaving it in someone's locker, or on their windshield, all bets are off!
Please read our Terms and Conditions / Privacy Policy for the full scoop. -
COST: Does it cost me anything to use this site?
No. Sending and receiving 10-31's by email is completely free. You can also print a black and white version of a 10-31 for fun and deliver it yourself (put it in a lunch box, a locker, car, pocket, purse, windshield, etc.)
When you don't know the email address of the recipient, you can have us print the 10-31 Notice on official letterhead and send it by first-class mail anywhere in the world for only $2.75.
Another free option is to just Vent - write a 10-31 about something in your past that really bothered you and then post it to the public archives without sending it to anyone. To do this, just click "Send a 10-31" on the home page and follow the easy instructions. -
EDIT: Can I edit a 10-31 that has already been sent to someone?
No. Once a 10-31 has been sent it can not be edited.
10-31's that have not been submitted can be edited by clicking the "Edit" icon in the "My 10-31's - Options" column.
The edit icon will only appear for 10-31's that have not been submitted. -

FLAGS: Why can't I see the flag icon?
If you don't see the flag icon on the right side of the 10-31 on the Archives page, it's because that 10-31 has previously been flagged.
If our review determines that the 10-31 does not violate our terms of service, the flag is removed and the 10-31 cannot be flagged again. -

I received a 10-31 -- what can I do?
The first thing you should do after reading your 10-31 is to enter your plea. If the 10-31 was emailed to you, just click the "Enter Plea" link in the email message and follow the steps.
If you have a paper copy of the 10-31, click the "Enter Plea" page and then type in your 10-31 number and the security code at the bottom left corner of the notice and follow the instructions.
Once you've entered your plea, you can also check out our Slick Advice page, and our blog "What holds you back?". -
JOIN: Why do I have to join and create an account to send a 10-31?
We ask our users to join for a few reasons. First, setting up and account is not only free, it provides many handy features. Second, if anyone could just come to our site and send 10-31 Notices, the service would be abused by criminals and spammers. code1031.com is a valuable social tool and we want to make sure it is not abused, so asking our users to join really helps us out.

MY ACCOUNT: A 10-31 Notice that was in "My Favorites" has dissappeared - where did it go?
This has happened because someone has flagged the 10-31 as inappropriate or illegal. We are obligated to review it, but if we determine that the 10-31 was mis-flagged and does not violate our Terms and Conditions, the flag will be removed and the 10-31 will reappear in your favorites. 10-31's can only be flagged once, so if your 10-31 is approved, it shouldn't disappear again.
